Será um princípio de bom senso? Seguramente é notável nestes tempos de retrocesso de direitos sociais e particularmente laborais. Omito a privacidade porque essa faleceu faz tempo… Volkswagen has agreed to stop its Blackberry servers sending emails to some of its employees when they are off-shift. The carmaker confirmed it made the move earlier this year following complaints that staff’s work and home lives were becoming blurred. The restriction covers employees in Germany working under trade union negotiated contracts. Campaigners warned that the move would not be suitable for all companies. A spokesman for VW said: “We confirm that this agreement between VW and the company’s work council exists”, but would not comment further. Under the arrangement servers stop routing emails 30 minutes after the end of employees’ shifts, and then start again 30 minutes before they return to work. The staff can still use their devices to make calls and the rule does not apply to senior management. “We wanted to take a preventative approach to tackling the issue,” said Gunnar Killian, VW’s works council spokesman. “At Volkswagen flexitime is between 0730-1745, with our new arrangement workers can only receive emails between 0700 and 1815.”

Miguel Robles-Duran to THIS BIG CITY: We’re talking about sustainability within a system we call capitalism. It is inherently unsustainable. There are very big questions about what sustainability means in that system. One of the many topics these programmes will be tackling is alternative property systems that address social over consumer demands. We are moving away from the fad of sustainability meaning green buildings. Actually if we analyse green buildings I think we would find they are not so green as we think they are, especially when we look at labour issues, exploitation of people that develop them etc. We have to start thinking more on a macro level.

A propósito…Portugal é borderline…

[Mais value for money?] “The booking window is changing,” said Dhiren Fonseca, co-president of Expedia’s Partner Services Group. “We’ve seen a 28 percent growth in sameday transactions. This speaks to the growth weve seen in our mobile business; 65 percent of mobile transactions are happening same day and travelers are taking shorter trips. Travel is down three percent in length of stay, and guests are buying down to lower star properties.”
